Numerology calculator from your name and date of birth

Numerology reduces letters and dates to single digits and reads meaning into the result. Whatever you make of it, the arithmetic is completely deterministic — the same name and date always give the same number, and you can check the working yourself.

This page works out three numbers: your life path from your date of birth, your destiny number from your name, and a lucky number from both.

Entertainment only

This is an entertainment tool. It does not predict anything, and it is not a substitute for advice from a qualified professional on health, money, relationships or anything else that matters.

How the life path number is worked out

Take the digits of your date of birth, add them all together, and then keep adding the digits of the result until you are left with a single digit. Someone born on 9 May 1990 gives 1+9+9+0 + 0+5 + 0+9, which is 19 + 5 + 9, which is 33 — and 3+3 is 6.

The method is old, entirely mechanical, and worth checking by hand once. Doing so makes it clear that the number is a consequence of the arithmetic, not a discovery about the person.

Why 11, 22 and 33 are left alone

In the tradition, three numbers are treated as "master numbers" and are not reduced further: 11, 22 and 33. If your digits total one of those, it stays as it is.

It is worth noticing what this does to the distribution. Master numbers are simply the totals that happen to land on those values, so they are considerably rarer than the other numbers — but for arithmetic reasons, not mystical ones. If your date totals 29, it reduces to 11 and stops. If it totals 30, it reduces to 3. Neither outcome is more meaningful than the other.

How the destiny number differs

The destiny number, sometimes called the expression number, uses the letters of your name instead of your birth date. Each letter is given a value from 1 to 9 in a fixed table — A, J and S are 1; B, K and T are 2, and so on through the alphabet — and the same reduction applies.

Because it is derived from the name, it is the number that changes when a name is spelled differently, which is why spelling variations are a common question in this tradition.

What this is not

Numerology is not a science and nothing here predicts anything. There is no evidence that a number derived from a name or a date tells you anything about a person, and the meaning attached to each number varies between schools anyway.

It is included here because it is a harmless, quick, entirely private bit of fun that people enjoy sharing — and because, unlike most of what is on the internet under this heading, the arithmetic on this page is correct and openly explained.

Questions people ask

Which name should I use?

The name you are usually known by. In the tradition it is normally the full name as written on a birth certificate or the name you use day to day, but different schools disagree, which is itself a sign of how much weight to give it.

Does spelling or a middle name change my number?

Yes. The destiny number is built from the letters, so adding, removing or respelling a name changes it. That is a straightforward consequence of the arithmetic.

Why is my number 11, 22 or 33 rather than a single digit?

Those are treated as master numbers in the tradition and are not reduced further. They are just the totals that happen to land on those values.

Can numerology tell me about my health or my future?

No. Nothing here predicts anything and it should not be used to make any decision that matters. It is arithmetic with a tradition attached.

Is my name or date of birth sent anywhere?

No. Both are used in your browser and discarded. Nothing is transmitted and nothing is stored.

Can I check the working myself?

Yes, and it is worth doing once. Add the digits of your date of birth, then keep adding until one digit remains, keeping 11, 22 and 33 aside. You will get the same answer this page gives.
